What is Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT)?

A Specialized Approach to Allergy Care Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) is a specialized form of auricular acupuncture used by trained practitioners as an approach to allergy-related care. While Alpha-Gal Syndrome is one of the primary reasons patients seek SAAT at our office, it isn't the only one. Patients also come to Dr. Jeff seeking SAAT care for a variety of identified allergens and sensitivities, including: Food-related concerns Tree nuts Gluten Dairy/lactose Other identified food allergens or sensitivities Environmental concerns Mold Dust Pollen Pet dander Seasonal and other environmental allergens SAAT differs from traditional acupuncture. Rather than placing multiple needles that are removed during the same visit, SAAT uses extremely small needles placed at specific points in the ear. The needles are covered with small adhesive bandages and remain in place for approximately three weeks. Dr. Jeff is specifically trained and certified in SAAT and brings approximately 20 years of acupuncture experience to every patient's care. He also holds a Diplomate in Acupuncture, reflecting extensive advanced education and training beyond basic acupuncture certification. Because every patient's allergy history is different, your visit begins with an individualized evaluation to determine which allergens or sensitivities Dr. Jeff plans to address as part of your SAAT treatment.

    What Happens During a SAAT Appointment?

    It's Much Simpler Than You May Be Imagining. Your initial SAAT appointment lasts approximately 45 minutes. 1. We Start With You Before anything else, we'll talk. Dr. Jeff will learn about your history, known allergies, symptoms and concerns and give you an opportunity to ask questions. 2. Dr. Jeff Performs His SAAT Evaluation Dr. Jeff uses muscle testing as part of his SAAT evaluation to help determine the allergens or sensitivities he plans to address during treatment. Muscle testing is part of Dr. Jeff's SAAT protocol and is not a replacement for medical allergy testing or an Alpha-Gal diagnosis. 3. The SAAT Needles Are Placed Dr. Jeff places extremely small acupuncture needles at specific points in your right ear. And when we say small, we mean tiny. They're often difficult to see with the naked eye. Small adhesive bandages are placed over the needles to help keep them securely in position. 4. You Head Home The SAAT needles remain in your ear for approximately three weeks. We'll give you instructions for caring for the area during your treatment period. 5. You Return for Your Recheck After approximately three weeks, you'll return to the office. Dr. Jeff will remove the needles and reevaluate the allergens or sensitivities addressed during your treatment. Because every person responds differently, some patients may be advised to complete an additional treatment cycle.

    Ok, But Does it Hurt? 

    This Might Be Our Most-Asked Question. Most patients tolerate SAAT needle placement very well. The needles are extremely small and are covered with small adhesive bandages after placement. If you're nervous about needles—or you're considering SAAT for your child—tell us. Seriously. You're not the first person who's been nervous about it, and we'll take the time to explain everything before we begin. Can Children Receive SAAT? Dr. Jeff works with both adults and children when SAAT is appropriate for their individual situation. We understand that parents usually have even more questions when they're considering treatment for their child. We welcome them.
