Anna's Story

Anna

"I am a 19 year old girl who has lived with several allergies, both food and environmental, of varied severity for all my life. Tree nuts are my most severe allergens
and cause me to have anaphylactic reactions. I have followed the usual advice given by allergists and other doctors which included allergen avoidance, treatment of symptoms only with medications- orally and topically- and always have carried an EpiPen for a potential anaphylactic reaction. Allergies have always affected me physically as well as socially and mentally. Even allergy shots were of little help.

My mother, who has been a patient of Dr. Lamberth for a few years now, let me know of an acupuncture treatment that was available for someone just like me.  A
one-time treatment that could possibly help me for the rest of my life. At my appointment, Dr. Lamberth educated us very carefully regarding the history of the “SAAT ”treatment, what he was doing and why it worked. We did the whole session, and I went home with the needles in my ear that were removed after three weeks.

A few weeks later, I made a mistake. Instead of the plain granola I usually eat, I had accidentally bought the brand with almonds in it and began eating it without paying attention. After eating a handful, I realized by the packaging of the error I made. Also, I did not have my Epipen or rescue medicine with me either. Surprisingly, I soon realized that I was not experiencing the usual symptoms with that allergen exposure. No itchy mouth, no swelling of my airway, stomach upset, tightness in my chest or rash on my body. Because of this, I decided to wait it out and not take any medication to see if there was any reaction for the next 24 hours. I did not have a single slight reaction. Even my hand that was in the granola bag did not hive up.

Before having the acupuncture done, just touching a surface that had almond on it would have made my whole arm hive up with big blisters and a rash, and eating one (let alone a handful of almond granola) would have become an emergency room visit. After this accidental exposure, I have realized the power this allergy acupuncture session has. After my first session of receiving my initial three needles, I have gone back for another four. I am very excited about this possibly life-changing treatment, and I feel a huge sense of relief that when an accidental exposure occurs, I will be perfectly fine."
